Chapter Summary

The thyroid is a highly vascular cervical endocrine gland composed of follicles that store iodinated thyroglobulin in colloid. The HPT axis regulates T4 and T3 production through TRH, TSH, and negative feedback.

Thyroid hormones influence metabolism and nearly every body system. Massage care remains supportive and within scope, with special attention to cardiovascular stability, airway and neck findings, medication and procedure history, and referral.
